Happy December!

New Search

You have asked for years that we improve the search on thwack...  and we have launched the first portion of a project to improve the search in the thwack site.  The next portions will help bridge search across the SolarWinds sites.  Would love to hear comments on what you think of the new version of search!

Private Forums Search

If you are involved in a private forum (like for product betas) then the search results for those items will appear in the right hand column on the results page.

Not excited so far - I already miss being able to search within a specific sub-forum, like only search within NTA results, or NPM.

As acherman says ...

Confirmed, I am getting very frustrated.  It's great that the search function has been broadened to include so much material from many places, but it's impossible now to limit search results.  I find myself sifting through more and more pages of results that don't even come close to matching my search.

Please, at least give us the option of narrowing down the results to a section.

I'm sorry, but this search engine is terrible. If you can't filter the results, what use is it?

I'm afraid that I must concur with the previous posters. The new search, while a terrific idea, suffers from poor execution. The inability to filter searches based on form/sub-forum/poster etc significantly reduces the usefulness of the search. I'd hazard to say that the old forum search was a far cry better in many regards to the new and improved Google powered search.

haven't played with it much, but I was able to find a post quickly (second entry) where it didn't show up before.

I concur I was trying to figure out how to seach the NPM reports in content exchange for anything with "netflow" and don't see how this could be done... just searching by netflow in search brings up all the normal posts.

Hi everyone... we have made a back door to the old search for those of you that prefer it.  The new search is appearing to be better for new people to the site (less page abandons from search) but I understand how it is challenging as you all noted above.  This is a temporary fix between the old search and another site wide search that is scheduled to be worked on at the beginning of next year.

To get to the old search:  First you need to log out of the site.  (this lets you use the search intended for "hidden boards" without it limiting the results to your boards.  Then go here thwack.com/.../SearchResults.aspx  and use the search.  Hope this helps some while we get the better search done.
