Hi all, just wondering when the Orion Windows Event Log Forwarder will be compatible with Server 2008 clients. I want to get it running on a new 2008 64bit box but the service wont start (says a dependency isn't started - Event Log) - I guess it aint compatible yet... Is there any ETA? I'm planning all my new 2008 servers to be on 64bit (and all 64bit servers to be 2008) as much as possible but the lack of Event monitoring is a real killer since we rely on it so much for monitoring and alerting these days. Thanks, Sean

We don't have a time frame, but we will make it compatible.

Are there any other solution for this?  What about other solutions outside of Orion?

Server 2008 has been out for just about 10 months now and you still dont have a solution for this issue.  Come on.

Do you have APM?  We have an Application Monitor Template for alerting on Windows Event Logs.

Yes I am running APM v2.0.  But it's just not the as using the syslog feature.  Are there any other tools which will tie into a 2K8 and then let NPM recieve the syslog messages?

We'll be fixing our WELF to work in Windows 2008.  I don't know of any other tools, but there may be some.

As Denny noted, we're working on updating the SolarWinds Event Forwarder for Windows to work with Windows 2008.

In the meantime, you might check out this utility to see if it meets your needs:  http://www.intersectalliance.com/projects/BackLogNT/index.html

Can you give us any real time line? Even like in the next 2, 3, 6 or 12 months would helpful.

Could we use 20 questions to get the date out of you?
