Hi all,

Is there anyway to have Sonar automatically run each month? We're looking to automate network discovery and report on any new nodes discovered dring the process. So far I've not been able to work out if this discovery can be scheduled.

Also, I've created a custom property called "Added" with the idea that I can run a report that will show all nodes where this property hasn't been assigned. Unfortunately it looks like " Added<>'yes' " isn't going to work for me (I'm assuming the property doesn't even get assigned until text has been entered into it). Any ideas or alternatives?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

At this time, discovery cannot currently be scheduled, we have an enhancement request in the system for this.

I would love to have the ability to do this. We have been waiting for the ability to do so, since we purchased the product 18 months ago.

We are looking forward to this feature.  We have been burned many times when devices do not get added correctly due to human error.

What about the secondary question he had.  When you do a Sonar discovery, I would assume all the custom property fields are actually NULL.

Maybe test for Added="" would work better in a NULL situation. I'm not sure, thoughts?

I'm a little scared to do a Sonar Discovery right now.  I'm afraid it will do silly things like list routers multipule times for each IP address it has. I've seen plenty of "discovery" processes do that, then I'd have to sift through all my nodes looking for dupes.

Can anyone put my fears to rest on that?

Warja,

If I understand the second part of your question correctly you should make the Custom Propertt "Added" a yes/no property.  By default newly added nodes would report as "no" or "False" so you could build a report based on that.  Then once these new devices are determined to be OK you can go and check the box for "added"

I think this would be an even cleaner way to do it!

I am confused. Are you referring to scheduling discovery in general or specifically with Sonar?

On Page 27 of OrionAdministratorGuide.pdf Step 11 states "click next" and proceeds to these options in step 12

12. Select the Frequency with which you want to schedule discovery, as shown in the following steps:

a. If you want to start a one-time discovery, select Manual.
b. If you want to define an hourly discovery, select Hourly, and then provide the hours and minutes that define your interval.
c. If you want to define a daily discovery, select Daily, and then select the time at which you want to start your daily network discovery.
d. If you want to immediately start discovering your network, check Execute Immediately.

However when I am at the Discovery Settings, there is no "next" button, only "discover", so I am not presented with the option to select Frequency. Is this option only available in certain versions? I am running NPM 9.5 SP4.

Thanks

I think that is a bug in the doc, let me confirm and get that changed.  You currently cannot schedule discoveries in NPM
