Hello,

We current have IOS 12.2.(25) running on our switches.

To enable me to use IP SLA Monitor what configuration do I need to apply to the switches if I want to monitor a link between a 6509 and 3750 switch ?

I have the basic rtr command for icmp echo configured on the 6509 only set to a frequency of 500 , is this enough  ? or do I need to setup other parameters set

Also is it best to use end host devices or is pinging between switches is fine ?

Regards,

Jay

Hi jaydws,

I'm unclear on what you question is. Have you tried using the IP SLA Monitor tool to set up operations?

Hi Andy,

No I haven't tried using IP SLA yet , I am about to install it tomorrow.

I was querying what configuration needs to be applied on the switches in order for IP SLA to work effectively.

Regards,

Jay

I see. The IP SLA Monitor tool will place the operations for you, if your systems are IP SLA capable. You won't have to do any CLI work. See the Cisco Feature Navigator to make sure your platforms and OS suport IP SLA. If they are on a code that only supports rtr, you'll probably need to upgrade.

Unfortunately its going to be quite a while before we can upgrade possibly next year.

Does this mean that we cant use IP SLA Monitor at all ?  even if the commands ae manually applied or is it the case where IP SLA will only recognise the new commands ?

I say give it a try. If the switch does not support IP SLA the tool will tell you.

Tested this with ICMP and it works fine.

Is there a tool to Analyse IP SLA Trends or is this via NPM ?

If so how do the two apps link together ?

Sorry to add to the above, how does the HTTP work if you have proxies on the network ?
