Hi all,

I am trying to develop a way to take email alerts from several sources, interpret the contents and then send the email back out again as a new email alert.

Basically, I am looking for a product that will work like a the syslog daemon/forwarder.  I want to take alerts from like Oracle, SQL server and various other bespoke applications.  Normally, the text in these emails is rubbish, and the recipient is non-technical, so they have to be given a crib sheet to look for the required action.

Within Orion, for all proactive alerts, I put tons of information in, about what to do with the alert, what the node means to the over all environment, severities etc..

Of course, I would love this to be added to Orion as an add-on to the core product…  managed and used like the syslog or trap receiver.  But I know this is unlikely to happen in the near fufuturer, or ever…  so has anyone else done this, and is there a product either free, or purchased that would do this?

Basically, receive emails… read the contents, and do some action depending on the content…

Cheers

dan

i found something...  i think solarwinds should buy them, and roll it into SOlarwinds to make it a unified alertign engine  :-0

advanced email parse from tweak marketing.  allows you to take in a email, manipulate it, and send it back out again.   Basically like a syslog deamon and forwarder...

http://www.tweakmarketing.com/products/aep/how_aep_works.php

i am going to buy this, but woudl love to be able to do in solarwinds...  but it is not really NPM type stuff, so why woudl SW want to do it lol...  i can only suggest it....  hee hee

give it to one of the developers as a wee side project, be he cold knock something together in a day or so :-)

In Lotus Notes I can create a single mail file and assign multiple email addresses to it.

I then can create  rules based upon content in the subject or the body, the sender, etc and then choose to forward that email to another e-mail address.

Since I am a Notes Admin I can only speak of this environment. Doesn't Outlook/Exchange have rules and actions that you can assign to a message?

hi there

the key is that you need to be able to re-write the content of the outgoing email, depending onm what the incoming email has in it...

cheers
