Hope this is the correct group, new to the thwack experience.  If I am in the wrong place please direct me in the correct direction.

I am interested in monitoring an Ubuntu server version 9 system resources and Squid resources on that server.  There is a squid mib.txt file. I am not sure how to go about writting my own poller if that is even possible or has someone done this already.

Thanks to all for your time in advance

If you have APM you can do this with the out of the box Unix/Linux Script component. If not, you need to leverage the snmpd's "exec" functionality.

The way it works is you write a shell script (or whatever language you prefer) and you have it offer up details about the health of your system (usually just a number). Then you assign the script in your snmpd.conf file to some OID that you make up - say 1.3.6.1.2.1.99999.1.0. When you use the universal device poller to grab that OID, you get whatever result your script provided.

If you need more detail, let me know.
