One of the questions we get asked by new customers is, "How much database space will NTA take?"   We give estimates that we get from our lab testing, but labs are not real life.

What we'd really like to know is what you are seeing in your environments?

  • How many interfaces are you monitoring?
  • How long have you been running NetFlow Traffic Analyzer 2.x?
  • How big is your database?
  • If you can say, how much of your database is NetFlow data?

What are your stats?

Thanks,

Denny

Seriously?  No takers?  I was kind of hoping we could share a little data and get some sense for what a typical NTA deployment takes, storage-wise.

I was just asked to get this information for my director.  I had hoped to find it here!

7 Interfaces

~3 days, give or take

3.4 GB

Based on completely unscientific methods (yay calc!), ~850MB

Edit:  oh, and that's with the default Global Settings for data retention.

Currently monitoring 2750 Interfaces. Mostly  MPLS and lightly used Gig links.  Keep uncompressed data for 4 hoursKeep compressed data for 14 days. Currently NetFlow is 80 GB of out total 101 DB. Average CPU on 2.93 X4  box 50 to 70 %. Daily DB growth about 2 GB.
