Has anyone gotten Cirrus to work with the Nortel Alteon Application Switch? I worked with support for awhile a couple months back but they were unable to get the script working and after awhile both sides dropped the issue. This is a critical device for us and I would like to have Cirrus do a nightly backup along with all of our other devices. If someone has a working script could you post it?
At what stage of the download process did the download fail? Where you able to login to the device within Cirrus using telnet or ssh? Where you able to enter the enable level? Did the download begin and not complete? What information did the session trace (under File > Settings > Advanced > Session Tracing) provide?
1. Yes Cirrus can login to the device using SSH.
2. There is no "enable" level. The Alteon uses a menu type interface. However only one command is necessary to tftp the config which is /cfg/ptcfg x.x.x.x config.cfg or to dump the config to the screen /cfg/dump.
3. The download seems to always fail with TFTP. I don't think the device file is correct, but do not know what is wrong with it.
4. The session trace file seems to have the dumped config, but it does not show up in Cirrus. The session trace is the exact same if I use SSH1 or TFTP to grab the config. After the config it has the following though:

Can you also please provide a screenshot of the login screen for the device? And a screenshot of the view after you login to the device?
Below is a snapshot of the device interface and tftp'ing the config.

Thanks for sending the device information for tfping the device.
From the session trace, it does not appear that Cirrus is able to login to the device. If you double-click on the Nortel device, select Actions > Validate Login Information from within the Node Details, is the login successful? We will first need to ensure Cirrus can login to the device before we work on updating the device template to pass the appropriate download commands.
If Cirrus is not able to login, please provide the error returned by Cirrus within the "Validate Login Information" screen, a screenshot of the login screen for the device, and the method you are using to connect to the device (telnet or ssh).
Cirrus is able to validate the login ok. Below is the output.

Thanks for the update. One of our field engineers should be contacting you soon to work with you more closely on the issue with the Nortel Alteon Application switch.
Thanks - I have sent them the information the requested.
Enjoyed working with you and am glad you are now successfully automatically backing up configs within Cirrus on the Nortel Alteon Application switch.
Hi Haley,
I've the same problem that pguenther used to have, briefly,
i can connect to the Alteon box through the telnet session , but i'm not able to download the config using the cirrus, my login detail is valid, and everything looks fine,
this problem is needed to be solved asap, as we are using cirrus as a part of our backup procedure,
thanks alot in advance.
hope to hear from you shortly
hi my friend,
i think i've exactly the same problem that you used to have between Alteon and Cirrus,
would you please tell me how did you problem have been solved ?
pguenther used the device template she posted to http://thwack.com/files/folders/cirrus_device_templates/default.aspx. The device template should be saved to ..\Program Files\SolarWinds\Configuration Management\DeviceTypes folder. Additionally, the transfer config settings in Cirrus for the Alteon box should be set to Telnet/TFTP and to ensure the Alteon box uses the appropriate template, you can select the template as the value for the Device Command Template field in the Device Details window. If the device template does not show up in the Device Command Template drop-down, simply close Cirrus, open it back up, and the new template should be available.
