Our company wants to implement having Solarwinds send alerts or text messages to our cell phones, this is extremely useful in the event that the mail environment goes down and we can't receive our mail which is in effect sent to our PDA.
I called Solarwinds and asked them for advice but they do not offer support on this topic.
Can anyone provide any good products that are preferably free and some details on how to go about setting that up?
Regards,
Spc
We have done this using SMS on Verizon, and on Cingular phones. It still requires a mail server but to avaoid the corporate server we just set up a smtp server and we use it instead of the corporate email system. The only problem we found is that if you get a lot of alerts you better have a good text messaging plan or it can get costly.

We're looking for a complete product that does this excluding any mail server environment, I would also like to gain some insight on how to go about setting that up (installation and configuration procedures)
You might want to take a look at the Attention Notification system. We have used their product for years and have been very pleased with it. It has the capability of SNPP (including 2-way), SMTP, MAPI and SMS. Their web site is www.attentionsoftware.com
You plugged what into my network?!
