Hi,
I just installed Cirrus to test if it can do what im looking for, and came across a problem with my nortel switches. I work in a large network so i got the above types (and other pasports). I tried searching this forum and every post i came across was either deleted or non-existant.
My problem is simple, when i try to login to any of my nortel switches it gets stuck on the menu. He logs in, then times out. What do i have to do to get this fixed so i can download my config files.
Thanx in advance.
grtz
Peter
Peter,
Cirrus should have no problems managing the Nortel 460s, 470s, and 5510s. The only requirement is that they have the cli interface enabled. Once the cli interface is enabled, the Nortel Passport 5510 device template should work for all 3 device types. To select the Nortel Baystack 5510 device template for the 460s and 470s, simply double-click on a device, move to the Communication section of the Device Details, and select Nortel Baystack5510 template for the Device Command Template field.
Hi Haley,
Its probably my bad, but i (think) i got CLI enabled, atleast i got the menu option when i telnet to a switch, and can use it fine too. I had set the 'device command template' to nornet 5510 also .. it just gets stuck on the menu .. i have added a screenshot to show you where it goes wrong.
Would you mind taking a quick look ? Thanks in advance!
Grtz
For most baystack Nortel devices, the method to enable the command line interface is as follows:
Please let me know if this changes the way the screen after login appears.
Hi!
Yes that worked like a charm! .. thanx alot!
A little correction, The nortel 470 i tried did not have a local password, thats why it worked. I installed a local RW password, on it, but then it keeps giving me a Login Failed : bad username. He enters a username, but never enters the password during the login.
Is there any fix for this ?
Do you happen to have RADIUS enabled for the Nortel 470 device? Additionally, is RW the username or the password value for the device?
RW is the login, and no radius server used (see conf). In addition, i also enabled SSH on the switch, but Cirrus cannot login using SSH .. i get a connection refused by ... but maybe i should make a different post on this problem.

I am having the same issue as posted above only on 5510 stacks. I noticed that Haley asked if RADIUS is being used. Does this cause an issue? We are using a TACACS+ server and are having trouble with stacks that have RADIUS enabled. Does anyone have a suggestion on how this can be resolved without disabling authentication to the 5510 stacks?
I am a reseller of both Nortel and Cisco networking products and I was trying to find some data on the Nortel 5510 series switches. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of where I could find performance and testing data for the Nortel 5510 series and its Cisco competitor?
