    Some questions...

    Hey there,

I'm doing an evaluation of LANSurveyor and have a few questions:

    • Is there any way to control the layering of objects and/or whether labels are opaque? I'm running the tool against a very small dev portion of our infrastructure and the maps are completely unreadible (lines running through textual descriptions, etc.)
    • Is there a way to get rid of the port/NIC descriptions on the connections themselves? (similar issue to the item above, clutters things up quite a bit.)
    • Does anyone have the DB integration working? I can't get it setup and assume that the issue is I'm using an evaluation copy. If so, is anyone getting/using information from *only* snmp nodes?
    • Does the Orion map integration work well? How do you accomplish the 'drill down' behavior from the Orion side with LANSurveyor?

    Thanks in advance,

    Will

Which Layout Style do you have selected?

Rt. Click on the Map -> Properties to select which Map Layout style you prefer = Hierarchical, Circular, or Symmetrical. For the descriptions Rt. Clcik Properties -> Map Labels to select what you wish to display. You can also use Groups to filter the views- For more on this and the Orion integration you can check these links out-

    Re: Some questions...

    Mark,

Thanks but all of the layouts are pretty much useless from a visual perspective because *none* of them appears to allow any control over whether the labels are opaque or whether one item floats over another item.

Also, the map labels section just lets you choose what the node label is (helpful, certainly.) However, it doesn't provide any ability to hide/display the port reference on the link between network device and end node.

Any thoughts on the other questions?

    Thanks,

    Will

    Re: Some questions...

How many subnets did you scan? All I can assume is they are stacked on one another- Maybe narrow down the complexity of the scan to see if this helps unclutter your situation. There are different map levels to choose from as well- You can drag the troubled Icons away from one another- also Rt. Click on the Node and Map Label you can specify to eliminate what is displayed- HTH somewhat. I'll forward this thread to the in-house expert for better clarification.

    Re: Some questions...

I have 20 subnets on there but this is a very minor subsite. I'd love to have the luxury of not having a bunch of subnets but, alas, it is not to be.

    Any help is appreciated,

    Will
