I have been a network engineer/consultant for longer than i care to remember.  For a good portion of those years i have always had a copy of the Engineer's Tool set by my side to help with discovery, troubleshooting and performance analysis.  Not a day goes by that I haven't taken advantage of one or more tools to improve the efficiency of my job.  Whether it is the invaluable Switch port mapper, IP Address Management tool or simply the Subnet Calculator to help out on those cloudy brain days, the tool set truly gives you information at your fingertips.
