Catalyst 2960, 6504-E show up as "Cisco" devices under "Machine type" when i do an SNMP sweep. 2950, 3650, 3750 and 6509-E seem to work ok. It can read SNMP just fine, but it cant identify the switches.

Are the mibs infact missing, or is it my installation? My money is on the mibs.

This is the same for Cirrus and Orion and I think its because Cisco have changed the location of the model in the MIB.

Actually, we have a file in which we keep track of all the SysobjectIDs, and it has either not been updated with the newer OIDs, or you have an older copy.  Can you post the SysObject IDs (and the device description) for the devices in question?

Get the value at:

SNMPv2-MIB:sysObjectID OID     1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2

We'll see what we can do about getting you an updated copy.

HTH,

Greg

I am having the same problem, my Cisco 2960 switches are showing as "Cisco" devices in both NCM and NPM. It isn't the end of the world, but it would be good to get it sorted :)

Greg: the value it returns is "ciscoProducts.1016"

Should be a "Cisco Catalyst 2960".

If there is a file I can edit myself can you let me know where it is?

Thanks

Paul

Pau1WH - if Orion and NCM are recognizing the device, let's use their database for the Sysobject information...

To do that:

  • Find a file named "SWDiscovery.cfg" located in "%CommonAppData%\SolarWinds" folder (usually "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds") and rename it to back it up.
  • Find the file named "SWDiscovery.cfg" located in the Orion or NCM installation folders and copy this to the all users location mentioned previously.

*** This might make some older Toolset apps show some interface/vendor icons with a "pinkish" tint, this will be corrected in a future release.

HTH,

Greg

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the reply - Unfortunately it doesnt recognise the device in NPM or NCM.. It shows up as "Cisco" on both. I was hoping the SWDiscovery.cfg file would be in plain text so I could fudge it, but no...

Any chance of getting this added to the next release? Cisco 2960s must be reasonably common!

Thanks

Paul

Hi Greg,

I'm having the same issue with Catalyst 2960s not being recognised by Orion. Is there a way to fix this? Should I open a ticket?

cheers,

Leo
