All application monitors reporting status "unknown"

    Hi,

We are currently evaluating the Orion with the Application Monitor plug-in. We are now experiencing some strange behaviour. Every monitor that has been setup is now showing an unknown status. This goes for http/https/smtp etc.

We have tested connectivity to the servers affected on the specific ports and there is no problem.

I have run the diagnostic tool however due to the sensitive data contained in the files please could someone instruct me on the most important sections so i can clean them up and post them.

    Thanks

    Charlie

Re: All application monitors reporting status "unknown"

I installed the full Application Performance Monitor package on my Orion Network Performance Monitor yesterday and have started out testing it with 4 DNS monitors using the provided template.

Randomly the Application Port Monitor stops polling for certain nodes and then does not restart itself. When looks at the Port Monitor Status it shows as Unknown.

The only way I have found to kick it off polling again is to go into APM Settings in the web GUI and then browse to the poller that has stopped and click on Submit. This seems to make it spring back into life.

Does anyone know why the Port Monitors might suddenly stop working. At the moment I cannot use APM to collect reliable stats :-(

    Charlie,

Go to Edit Alert. Select the Trigger Actions tab. Select the message tab - where it says to edit the subject line - first insert the variables that you are monitoring (ex. - ${NodeName}  ${ApplicationName}) than at the end of the subject line type in the property that you are monitoring: DOWN; UP; Back UP etc.

The e-mails that you recieve will then tell you the actuall status instead of Unknown.
