When I became a server admin we had a few different server monitoring applications that each did a mediocre job of monitoring their own niche of information.  Once we decided to move to Orion we were able to setup monitoring and alerting on all of our nodes be it servers (windows, aix, linux, solaris), networking gear, environmental monitors, security cameras, ups(s) or even specialized laboratory equipment all from one system.  We can monitor it, graph it, report it and monitor any special data from any collected MIB.  We have setup syslog, trap and polling alerts that do everything from play a sound byte in the noc when someone opens the door to the datacenter all the way to speak, email and page that a server has gone offline so no matter where we are Orion will let us know if there is a problem.  That my friend is peace of mind. If you haven't explored custom MIB pollers, do it.  It will expand the capabilities of Orion by leaps and bounds.  (the video tutorial is especially helpful from the solarwinds website) -Paul
