Continous Scan while running as a service

Does Continuous Scan still run while LANSurveyor is running as a service? It doesn't appear to unless the application is open. Thanks for any info.

Yes, Continuous Scan does run while LANsurveyor is running as a service. For what reason do you think Continuous Scan is not running?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have email alerts set up for the Continuous scan, and it is set to scan every hour. However, I don't receive any of these alerts unless the LANSurveyor app is open. Continuous scan may be working when the app is closed for all I know, but I'm not seeing any indication of that based on the lack of emails.

Re: Continous Scan while running as a service

When you installed LANsurveyor as a service, did you enable the "Display the LANsurveyor application when any user logs in" option? (This option will be present if you are *not* running on Vista). If you did and you have Continuous Scan enabled, you should see the Continuous Scan window progress updating.

In any case, you should be able to open the LANsurveyor log file (Start>SolarWinds LANsurveyor>LANsurveyor Log.txt) and see entries being made for Continuous Scan when it is running.

Also, please make sure you have one or more maps set to AutoOpen (Tools>Options>AutoOpen). If you don't have any maps configured to AutoOpen, when the service starts up, Continuous Scan will have no maps to scan.

I found the log in All Users/Shared Documents. Is that normal? Additionally, I attempted to uninstall and reinstall the app, but the service stayed and it recreated the folder in the All Users/Documents location.

Yes, the LANsurveyor Log.txt file lives in All Users/Shared Documents.

If you attempt to uninstall and reinstall LANsurveyor, the uninstall process does *not* remove the service mechanism. Before uninstalling LANsurveyor, I would definitely stop the LANsurveyor service, if it is installed. After reinstalling LANsurveyor, you can then simply start the service again.
