Support for custom ASP resources ending 2009 - switch to ASP.NET

As many of you may have noticed, Orion NPM 8.5 introduced asp.net to the Orion Web console.  Currently, the web console is a mix of asp and asp.net, which means we still support the older asp-based custom resources.  We will continue to support these resources in the upcoming 9.0 release.  That's the good news.

The bad news is that we cannot continue to offer backward compatibility forever.  We expect that in the first half of 2009, we will have a release that is pure asp.net and will not support older asp-based custom resources.

What does this mean for you?  If you don't have any custom resources, it doesn't mean anything.  Don't worry about it.  If you have created or have borrowed a custom resource, it will need to be re-written for asp.net compatibility before the middle of next year if you want it to work with that release of Orion.

Note that I'm not saying which release of NPM we're talking about.  The change won't happen in 9.0, and there may be a 9.x before the this change, so it's probably a couple of releases out.  I just wanted everyone to have fair warning.
