Any idea on when/if Solarwinds Wireless Network Monitor will support Cisco Wireless LAN controllers? I'm even willing to donate one or two to Solarwinds if it would help get development started.
Would it help if I asked nicely?
P L E A S E ? ?
I figured it was worth a shot
I'm afraid we don't have an ETA just yet, but improvements to Wireless Monitor are on our roadmap.
We are scheduled to start the conversion process to the cisco centralized solution within 6 months.
The current wireless package will be of little value after the conversion.

Does v8 Wireless Module support Cisco LWAPP Thin AP's Yet?? Are there plans to make this work without the use and resources od a custom poller?
It does not. We are considering that feature for a future release.
We've switched to an all LWAPP environment and now our wireless module is useless.
Please comment when you know how long until Solarwinds supports LWAPP. I know Cisco WLC's have plenty of readable MIBS....we just need the Solarwinds team to pull them all together.
Just curious...If the custom MIB poller supported "Get Table", would you being to get what you need?
Not even close. Though SNMP "Get Table" is a great feature that is lacking in the current custom MIB poller, this feature could not by any means serve as a suitable replacement or substitute for the Wireless Network Monitor.
Good to know. thx.
Any update on an ETA for WLC support? - we have some 200 WLC's and if this was supported the Wireless module would probably be just what we need.

We've never said that we will definitely support Cisco WLC. Based on our current plans, it's not on the roadmap in the next 6-9 months. Beyond that, I'm not sure.
Denny, It's clear that you've never seen a grown man cry before

Denny,
We are evaluating Cisco LWAPs vs. Autonomous APs at the moment. Just so I am completely clear, are you saying that Cisco LWAPs and WLCs will most likely not be supported by the Orion Wireless Module within the next year? With Cisco making a huge push towards LWAPs, I think this represents a very significant gap in functionality for the Wireless Module.
I don't expect us to do that. We realize it would be useful functionality, but with limited resources, we expect to put more weight behind delivering on more of the outstanding core Orion feature requests, which means you still ultimately win.

Let me take a shot at translating this..
Question = Will Cisco LWAPs be supported by the Orion Wireless Module within the next year?
Short Answer = No
Long Answer = No, but you'll have some cool new features in Orion instead
bleh
I'm another customer with a number of LWAPs deployed. Currently about 33% of our APs are LWAPs, and we are getting ready to convert more of our larger sites in the near future.
Of course we still have trouble getting the Network discovery to find our regular Cisco APs and without the time to manually enter all of them we are basically not using this module at all.
Add us to the list. We currently have the wireless module but will be converting 60 APs in 08. I guess it looks like we wont renew that module if it will be useless.
Oh and we also have a WLSE.
