Orion is worth every penny. From the monitoring and alerting of low disk space on file servers, to indepth traffic reporting and individual interface analysis; it's certainly made life easier.

In the past we never collected throughput data or statistics for any device, and all of our network tools ran from different places from different vendors. But now we have the power. We get alerts and report ing on the utilisation of an MPLS circuit, know immediately if an interface is shutdown, if a device is down, if there are errors on an interface, the throughput on any port we choose to monitor, CPU utilisations, disk space... the list of valueable resource in Orion and the engineers toolset are endless. The best bit - we can do this all from one remote desktop session, or web page.

We have a large TFT set up in the office showing an Orion web-based network map - designed in solarwinds and based over a Visio drawing - showing the health of essential kit. Using some knowledge gained from Thwack, I managed to add audible alerts to a list of devices in a 'down' state. I admit, I'd like to see a more flexible and customisable dashboard view for permanent display purposes, but the customisable web-page view is a very good feature in itself. We've created several different views for various departments/people, so they can see the health of equipment in their area of responsibility.

As for reports, I'd have to say 'wow' -  As we have Service Level Agreements to maintain, the reporting structure has allowed me to give accurate answers to many a question!
