Re: Problem in adding orion server

Are you using Orion 8.5.1 or 9?

If you are using Orion 8.5.1 make sure that you've installed the SolarWinds Orion Information Service (SOIS) on the Orion server.  You can do this by running the EOC installer on the same Orion server and it will prompt you to install the service.

Make sure that port 17777 is not being blocked by firewall between your EOC and Orion server.

SSL is used to encrypt the channel between EOC and Orion and as a result, the UTC version of the time on the EOC server and Orion server cannot be more than 5 minutes apart.

Re: Problem in adding orion server

To let Orion NPM 8.5.1 servers talk to Orion EOC, you have to upgrade the NPM server with a component from the Orion EOC installer. The procedure for that is in the Administrator Guide, but I'll paste it at the end of this post for convenience.

If you already did that, and you're still getting this error, there might be something blocking port 17777. You may have to contact your IT department and ask them to open port 17777 if they are blocking it.

    [excerpt from Admin Guide follows]

The SolarWinds Orion Information Service (SWOIS) allows Orion NPM 8.5.1 servers to communicate with Orion EOC.

SWOIS is built into Orion NPM versions 9 and later, and you do not need to install SWOIS on those servers.

To install the SolarWinds Orion Information Service on Orion NPM 8.5.1:

    1. Log on to the Orion NPM 8.5.1 server.
    2. If you downloaded the product from the SolarWinds website, navigate to your download location and run the SolarWinds-Orion-EOC-v1.0.exe installer program.
    3. If you received physical media, browse to and then run the installer program.
    4. Click Orion Information Service, and then click Install.
    5. Accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then complete the installation wizard.

    Hi, Guyus:

You could have a firewall blocking port 17777 between your Orion EOC server and your Orion NPM server. Please check with your IT department to see if this is the case, and if so, persuade them to unblock it.

Or, the UTC system time of the two servers may be out of sync by more than 5 minutes. Check the system time on the two servers, and synchronize them if they are different.

Re: Problem in adding orion server

If none of those are the reason, here are two more possible reasons why you might not be able to add an Orion Server:

    1. Is the SolarWinds Orion Information Service actually running on the Orion NPM 9 server? Please look at the Windows Services list to make sure that it is running. Start it if it is not.

    2.  Are your Orion servers made by Dell? Dell installs the EMBASSY security suite on some machines. This suite is known to cause the .Net TCP Port Sharing service to crash. If this is the problem, try installing the .NET hotfix fromhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/923028. If this does not resolve this issue, uninstall the Wave Systems EMBASSY Trust Suite software.

Re: Problem in adding orion server

Hi, I am evaluating an EOC in our organisation. We are having multiple Orion Servers but all of them running on 8.0.1 versions. Is there a way i can get the EOC to work with this version or alternatively if there is a way to update the existing version to 8.5.1.

    Thanks,

Re: Problem in adding orion server

Hi.  Unfortunately EOC does not support Orion 8.0.1, you would need to upgrade your Orion 8.0 servers to Orion 8.5 in order to deploy EOC.
