9.0.1 Switchport mapper - MAC Discovery issue

    Hello, everyone.

I'm having a problem with the Switch port mapper.  I have two 6509s, each running sup720s.

I'm trying to map out the switch with this tool, but it seems to halt solid after less than 60 mac addresses when there should be quite a bit more than that.  It just hangs at fifty something and will remain that way all day if I let it, setting the SNMP timeout doesn't seem to help.

The software has no problem checking the ARP table, it just doesn't work on the MAC discovery.

I have another environment with dual 6513s, running sup720s, that maps fine.

I am using version 9.0.1 of the tool.  Version 9 would not detect the BRIDGE-MIB on this device (But at least 9.0.1 works now!)

    Any ideas?

The best way to handle this is for you to gather a packet capture of the traffic between Switch Port Mapper and the 6509's and then contact our support department.

I have the same setup and I am having similar issues.  I am able to get some of the MAC Addresses to come up but a majority don't.

When I look at the ARP table on the switches I can see the MAC Addresses for the devices but I never see them in Port Mapper.

Solarwinds...Has this been fixed yet ??????

I just downloaded eng. toolkit with switch port mapper v9.2 Dec 2007 and cannot get any of our switches to work

    Recieve error below...

    " x.x.x.x does not support the Bridge-MIB"

The same switches run MIB-walk fine.

..Pretty frustrating as I was praising this tool when I used previously to the client before downloading this ver.

I had simmilar problems with the switchport mapper tool. I upgraded a few weeks ago and it stopped giving me the switchport info. I contacted Solarwinds and basically they tell me it's a known bug and no eta on completion. They sent me ver 9.1 from July.

I have found that by changing the SNMP String either Write/Read it makes a difference on how it pulls the information.

Do you have '@' character in your snmp string?

try removing the @ character and should work.

Re: 9.0.1 Switchport mapper - MAC Discovery issue

We have upgraded to 9.2.0.1, We are now experiencing problems with DNS to MAC resolution using Switch Port Mapper that was fixed in previous releases.

Is there a planned fix out there or is there any current resolution available, We are and have been using SNMPv3.

The couple boxes that were not upgraded are running a 7.X and 8.X versions

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

This tool is used extensively to troubleshoot dynamic DOT1X issues. and is a must have.
