We just upgraded from 8.1(Appmon, Netflow) to 8.5.1(Appmon,Netflow,VoIPmon) and aside from some bumps with pass-through authentication, it went well. Now the website is slow, 5-15 seconds to go from summary to detail view and not just the first time as compared to 1-3 seconds with 8.1. The hardware/network are the same, anyone else experencing issues like this?

See anything unusual in your logs?
That sounds like a loaded question, I assume your asking about IIS logs, not being an IIS guy, nothing looks too different pre and post upgrade.
I would definitely say that the website access in 8.5.1 is slower than in 8.1.

Mark or Denny,
There seems to be a number of people in this (and other) posts who have noted a significant difference in web performance for 8.5.1. I understand that there were some major changes to the web site, so have you been able to determine if there is a particular pattern associated with those who have problems, as opposed to those who don't? Are there certain resources that seem to be more problematic than others? Is there anything people can look for in general within their specific environments? Does a beefier web server help, and should this be a consideration before moving to this release?
We are planning to upgrade, but web performance is a big consideration for us.
Thanks... :)
The All Nodes resource can be slower for very large environments. We need feedback on which resources are problems. To test individual resources, just click the name of the resource to detach it. Time how long it takes. If it's slow when detached, then that one has a problem. Let us know. We're working on fixes for those that prove problematic.
We have a rather large number of devices and it takes about 25 seconds to load our main page with the all nodes resource. I would really like to see some improvement in the way this page loads. It would greatly improve other employees perception of Orion.
However, we actually saw a slight improvement in the page load time when we upgraded from 8.1 to 8.5.1.
We don't use the "All Nodes" resource, but we do use the "Node List - Custom grouping and filtering". This one has always been the problem for us, and we've not yet moved to 8.x. It proved to be so highly impacting that we replaced the resource on the various summary views with a link so that it would only become a factor when someone wanted to see the list bad enough to select it specifically. Doing so reduced loading times by 300% for those views.
Some of what I've been reading sounds more like a general slowness, and not necessarily tied to a specific view. This is what concerns me most.
The only experience I have with 8.5.1 thus far is an eval instance we installed in our lab, so I don't really have much feedback at this point. By the end of this week, I hope to have a new, full implementation built out in our production data center.
This is our Server Summary Page - We have 2100 Elements our Data Base is approx 10GB
This page takes 10-20 seconds to load.
We're pretty sure it's not a general slowness. You may notice that the first time you bring up the web console, it takes extra time to load, which is a quirck of .Net, but once that's done, it's responsive except for a few problematic resources.
Our main page had the last 10 syslog messages being displayed. When we removed this it improved the performance by about %50..
I'm glad to know that we are not alone. We upgraded our Orion App and the Wireless Module from v8.1 to v8.5.1 this past Tuesday and immediately after the upgrade we noticed that the website was performing much slower than when we were using version v8.1.
In addition we notice that Stopping the NetPerfMon Service takes much longer that with v8.1 too.
The pages that take the longest to load are:
Orion Network Summary
Wireless Network Summary
Interface Details

We too have noticed a big difference in response times upgrading from 8.1 to 8.5.1. In fact, our Network Summary page times out frequently when refreshing. Also, when clicking on a node, it will timeout frequently as well. If I could go back to 8.1 I would. I have opened a ticket with SolarWinds and apparently there is a bug that the developers are working that may address this issue, but I cannot say for sure.
We know that the All Nodes resource is slow, and the next SP will have a fix for that problem . I recommend that you try detaching each resource and watching it load. That will tell you which ones are slow and which ones are fast. Post the slow ones, and we'll work on speeding those up.
Just for the record, we're building a fresh installation of Orion 8.5.1 in our production data center, and so far we have not had any real issues with website performance in general. Generally speaking, there doesn't seem to be any difference in web performance for any of our views, as compared with our experiences with 7.8.5. The only web performance issue we've seen is with the time it takes to return results from the "Search Nodes" and "Search Interfaces" resources.
There are some other issues that have popped up, but I currently have an open case to see if we can get those ironed out. I'll create a new post covering the other issues once we either get them resolved, or hit a dead end.
We have the same slow web site in 8.5.1 like everyone else. Does Node Filtering slow the site down any? Meaning that on the down nodes and most of the other views we filter out all the servers and just report on network stuff. Do those filters take long to process and as a result make the page slower?
I also just did a test. Our main page refresh takes about 50 seconds. I removed the All Nodes - Tree view from it and the page reloads in 7 seconds. Wow.BB
We're about to release SP2, which should improve performance of this resource.
Great news. We also are looking at our DB server and its performance. I think our server is too small for what we are doing now and are looking to upgrade its RAM from 4GB to 8 or maybe 16GB. Do you have any specs on minimum size/configuration based on elemets? And also based on elem, ents plus if you have add-ons like NetFlow TA?

The minimum system requirements are listed here: http://www.solarwinds.com/products/orion/system_requirements.aspx
Getting more specific is difficult because it depends on how much you are monitoring, how frequently you are polling, how much traffic is going through NTA, and how many VoIP sites you have.
